ABOUT ANESVAD FOUNDATION

Anesvad is a foundation based in Bilbao (Spain), with over 50 years’ experience in the field of cooperation, whose mission is to combat Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) in sub-Saharan Africa by strengthening public health systems from a human rights perspective. The organisation focuses its support on contributing to the control, elimination and eradication of certain NTDs that have a decisive impact on the living conditions of people in vulnerable situations in sub-Saharan Africa.

As part of the new 2023-2026 strategic plan, Anesvad’s aspirations are to contribute to the generation of greater social impact in terms of sustainable development for individuals, families and communities affected by NTDs. This means starting to lay the foundations for analysing and measuring impact within the organisation – a new area of work: social entrepreneurship.

This aims to promote and support African entrepreneurs and social enterprises linked to our work on NTDs, health and its social determinants, focusing on their sustainability and ensuring the greatest social impact on the individuals, families and communities concerned.

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES

The programme aims to support around thirty (30) social entrepreneurs with an interest in the field of health, its social determinants and the fight against neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) in Côte d’Ivoire.

For a better understanding of the programme’s objectives, a few definitions are given below.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines health as follows:

‘Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity’.

Health is therefore approached in a positive way, and not simply as the absence of disease, as an element with multiple origins and for which multiple agents are responsible.

The social determinants of health

Health, in a broad perspective, transcends the health sphere and includes the conditions in which people live, work, play, relate to each other, and grow old, as well as the conditions in which they live, work, play, relate to each other and grow old. entertain themselves, relate to each other and grow old.

The health of individuals and populations is strongly influenced by the environment, by the way they live, work, eat, travel and enjoy their leisure time. These living conditions do not depend exclusively on individual choices, but are determined by socio-cultural, economic and environmental factors.

The social determinants of health are unevenly distributed, leading to inequalities in health.

The right to health

The right to health is therefore an inclusive right that encompasses a wide range of factors that can contribute to a healthy life, including safe drinking water, adequate sanitation, healthy food and healthy working conditions, among others.

Specific objectives

  1. Activate social entrepreneurship with an impact on health, its social determinants and the fight against neglected tropical diseases.

Social entrepreneurship consists of encouraging the creation of economic initiatives that have a positive social impact. By supporting social entrepreneurs, the Anesvad Foundation’s mission of improving the health and well-being of individuals, families and communities is furthered. well-being of individuals, families and communities affected by NTDs.

  1. Support capacity building for social entrepreneurs and their start-up projects.

The project aims primarily to provide technical support to social entrepreneurs involved in population health and the fight against NTDs. This will strengthen their skills and optimise the resilience of their initiatives, thereby increasing their effectiveness and impact.

  1. Generate a lasting social impact and ensure the expansion of the proposed solutions over time.

The solutions initiated by social entrepreneurs must be sustainable, thereby guaranteeing a positive long-term impact on the populations affected. By ensuring the sustainability of the initiatives, the project maximises the positive effect on the health and well-being of the population.

  1. To contribute to the sustainable local development of Côte d’Ivoire as a country affected by neglected tropical diseases.

This involves supporting and encouraging the development of sustainable and appropriate solutions that will not only combat NTDs, but also generate wealth and economic opportunities and improve the quality of life of the population.
